The Department of Accounting offers a broad program of courses in accounting. Coupled with required and elective courses in economics and business administration, the accounting curriculum provides the graduate with a sound educational foundation for an accounting career or post-graduate studies.  The accounting curriculum also provides a theoretical foundation for students who plan to take examinations to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). In addition, the College of Business and Economics also provides a full-time, four quarter MBA program for qualified applicants with business degrees.  For more information on the MBA program and application process, see http://www.cbe.wwu.edu/mba.

We're proud of our Accounting program!

  • We are committed to a high quality education for our students - our faculty are continually reviewing and revising our curriculum to stay ahead!
  • Students enjoy a high level of interaction with professors!
  • We attract great students!
  • We have an impressive collection of senior-level accounting electives! In addition to required courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, accounting information systems, tax, audit, and law, accounting majors select three of our ten senior-level accounting electives in areas such as not-for-profit accounting, environmental accounting, international accounting, managerial accounting, financial accounting, accounting information systems, advanced taxation, and tax research.
  • We have an extremely active Accounting Society and Beta Alpha Psi chapter. These organizations meet jointly to maximize student interaction with the accounting profession. Meetings are most Thursday evenings during the academic year - generally with speakers from all areas of the accounting profession. Members also participate in a wide variety of community service activities throughout the year, including our TaxAide (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program - which provides tax help at ten sites throughout Whatcom County each year. In addition, our chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has earned national recognition as a Superior Chapter every year since it was installed as a chapter!
