Transferring Courses to WesternTransferring courses from a Washington community college Western has compiled a listing of Washington community college courses which are equivalent to Western courses. The complete listing for all Washington community colleges is provided on the Office of Admissions website at http://www.wwu.edu/~admit/ccindex.html. This list includes information not only for business courses, but for other courses as well. This list also includes the names of the specific Associates transfer degrees that are accepted by Western. Students with transfer degrees are generally considered to have met their General Undergraduate Requirements (GURs). Transferring courses from a 4-year Washington state university Western has compiled a listing of courses from Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, University of Washington, and Washington State University which are equivalent to Western courses. The complete listing for these 4-year Washington state universities is provided on the Office of Admissions website at http://www.wwu.edu/~admit/univindex.html. This list includes information not only for business courses, but for other courses as well. Courses not listed may be evaluated, at the request of the student, on an individual basis. To have a course evaluated, contact the Department Office. Transferring non-business courses from a college or university outside Washington state An overall evaluation of course equivalents is done by transfer credit evaluators in the Office of Admissions at or about the time that the student starts classes at Western. These evaluators determine which specific courses count as replacements for General Undergraduate Requirements (GURs) at Western. The College of Business and Economics does not evaluate the transferability of non-business courses. Running Start Running Start credits earned through Running Start are community college credits and are accepted by Western as such. A listing of Washington community college courses which are equivalent to Western courses for all Washington community colleges is provided on the Office of Admissions website at http://www.wwu.edu/~admit/ccindex.html. Maximum Number of Credits Transferable from a Community College The maximum number of transferable credits is 105 from a community college. ScholarshipsA number of scholarships are available for qualifying CBE students. For more information please see the CBE Scholarship page. Other CBE forms may be found here. Declaring a MajorStudents must have achieved a 2.50 cumulative college GPA (including transfer work) to declare a major in economics. Completion of the CBE Foundation courses is not required to declare a major in economics, except for the economics-accounting combined major. Students planning to major in economics should declare their major as early as possible, preferably during their first year at Western. Early declaration is costless and in no way restricts the student’s options for changing plans later, but it provides many benefits. Advantages include faculty advising for help in program planning, registration priority for certain upper-division courses, access to computer facilities, and protection against possible future catalog revisions that change degree requirements. Declared majors also are eligible for the departmental scholarships and other departmental awards. Transfer students should contact the department prior to registering to be certain that they enter the course sequence correctly with the appropriate course equivalents from other institutions. 1. Contact the Economics Department office to schedule an appointment to declare your major (Parks Hall 315; 360-650-3910; econ@wwu.edu). 2. Complete the CBE Application form on-line: http://www.cbe.wwu.edu/College/Applications.asp Please complete this form at least one day prior to your appointment. You must attach a copy of all your unofficial college transcripts. (To attach the transcript(s), copy and paste each transcript from the electronic form, then save it as a Word Document). The Application form will be forwarded to the Economics Department for review at your appointment. The Transfer Equivalency document is not acceptable. 3. At your appointment, the Chair will review the Application and your transcript(s), and if accepted to the major, will complete the approval section of the form. You will then be assigned an advisor in the Economics Department. Upon completion of your appointment, the Application form, with attached transcripts, will be sent to the CBE Dean’s Office for data entry. 4. The advisor will sign the Major Declaration Card, which is to be returned to the Department Office. Please bring a copy of your transcript(s) and a Degree Evaluation document to your meeting with your advisor. You access the Degree Evaluation document through Web4U. 5. Students wishing to declare one of the combined majors must meet the major declaration requirements of the other department(s).
