Are you interested in the rigorous
study of social and political issues such as income inequality, economic
development, the Microsoft case, environmental economics or the
implications of free trade? Are you looking for an excellent
preparation for a career in business, government, or law? If so,
then you should consider a major in economics !
A degree in economics can be the gateway to many
careers. Professional economists are employed as advisers and
researchers in both business and government and as teachers and
researchers in academic institutions. Employment as an economist
generally requires the completion of graduate studies beyond the
bachelor's degree. Western's graduates in economics also go on to a
variety of jobs in business and teaching. In addition, many of our
graduates have had a high success level for admissions to professional
schools in law and business.
The Economics Department offers a
wide range of courses and majors. For further information, please
review the description of the majors, plans of study, and course
descriptions.
