Here are some details about what GDN 2000 registrants (including guests) will receive, in addition to the usual printed material, which includes a booklet of Abstracts.  GDN 2000 starts with a late afternoon reception at a place called House of the Art Lover on Monday 3 July. From 09:00 Tuesday 4 July to 17:00 Thursday 6 July there will be keynotes, sessions, software demonstrations, discussion sessions, and assorted other events (including coffee breaks) at the conference site, University of Strathclyde Business School.  There will also be two off-site excursions. On Tuesday we will leave about 5:30 for a distillery visit followed by dinner at Ross Priory. On Thursday, we will leave about 5:30 for the conference banquet at New Lanark. I understand that everything is included in these excursions, though there may be rules about drinks with meals, etc. I am hoping for good weather, especially for the excursions. It's an excellent opportunity to see the region, and the evenings are very long in Scotland in early July.  Anybody who has an extra day or two should consider a trip up the West coast of Scotland north of Glasgow. Colin Eden tells me it is superb. You can do it by hire car (which you should get in Glasgow center, not at the airport). Alternatively, the train ride is one of the prettiest on the globe if the weather is good.    -- Marc Kilgour

Guest registrations are for people who would like to attend GDN 2000 in company with a full participant, but who are not themselves interested in the subject matter of the conference. Guests registrants will participate fully in all of the non-professional GDN 2000 events. Guests are most definitely invited to the Opening Reception on Monday and to the off-site excursions -- on Tuesday for the Distillery Tour and dinner at Ross Priory, and on Thursday for the Banquet at New Lanark. They will not receive printed material such as schedule and abstracts, and are expected not to attend sessions, keynotes, software demonstrations, etc. But guests are welcome at all on-site events that are primarily social, and local information will be equally available to full participants and their guests.

It's easy to fly to Glasgow transferring at either Heathrow or Amsterdam.  But depending on where you start, it may be more convenient to take a direct flight into Glasgow. (Also, it is said that the time and hassle of immigration is less in Glasgow than in Heathrow.)  A completely unscientific survey has found direct flights (apparently daily) to Glasgow on Continental from Newark, on American from Chicago, and on Air Canada from Toronto. Another interesting alternative is Iceland Air, which flies to Glasgow from Minneapolis and Boston with one stop (guess where!).  Once you get to Glasgow, the rest is easy. The center of the city is only 20 minutes by bus from the airport. Buses leave every 15 minutes during the day, and cost £3 ; of course, taxis are even faster, but they cost £15. If traveling by bus, get off at George Square (in the city center). The recommended hotel is walking distance (600m) towards the University.

The Glasgow City Travel Inn is the recommended hotel. The address is
