Getting Started - Accelerated MBA Program

We always bring our new student group together for a program orientation and social time where we answer your questions and give you a chance to meet each other before getting down to MBA business.

Below is a schedule for this year's orientation, beginning seminar, and early start date. Your course registration information is listed near the bottom of this page.

Each year we provide the new Accelerated track students with detailed information on concepts to be familiar with prior to beginning the program. Please download this document and review it prior to orientation.

Accelerated Program Orientation

Tuessday, June 16th 2009 from 9:00 - 1 P.M. in Parks Hall 441

Information about the Orientation Session will be sent to you shortly via mail and email. Please be on the lookout for this information and reserve the date on your calendar.

9:00 am: Orientation for MBA Candidates new to Western (those coming from a different school)
10:00 am: Campus Tour for all interested students
10:30 am: Orientation for all MBA Candidates
12:00 pm: Lunch with MBA Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Continuing MBA Candidates

MBA Summer Quarter Class Schedule

Beginning Tuessday, June 16th and ending Monday, August 17th

Monday - Friday in Parks Hall 244
Class Sessions: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm & 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Classes have been arranged to provide students with as many days off as possible during the quarter but please plan on a Monday - Friday schedule.

During summer quarter, MBA Accelerated track students register for one 16-credit course (MBA 516 "Managerial Decisions"). This course consists of seven modules covering a variety of topics: competing in a global economy, accounting, finance, managerial skills, marketing, operations management, and people, management and organization (PMO).

Registering for Classes

Register for these courses online with this link Web registration. You will first need to activate your Universal Account by visiting Academic Technology.

MBA 516 will be taken only by students in your class. This means that there is a spot being held for you, and you will not be competing for a seat. You will need to register by the specific deadline that has been established -- look at the Summer Session and Deadline links. Registration Process

Open your Universal Online Western Account at Academic Technology.
Search Classfinder for your classes during the Summer 2009 term, and record the CRN (course record number).
Set up your Web Registration userid and password. Your userid is your student identification number (W#) and your initial PIN number is the first six digits of your Social Security Number. See the web registration site for further information on registration online. Refer to the PIN FAQ if you do not have a Social Security Number or have other questions.
Login to the online registration system, Web4U, select the Student Services & Financial Aid tab, then select the Registration tab and the Add/Drop Classes link. Select the term you are registering for and enter the CRN for MBA 516. You will use a different UserId, your Western ID #, and password than your Univeral Online Western Account. You will need to define a password the first time you log on to Web4U.
Check the Registrars Office website for important dates for the coming academic year.
Check the Summer Session website for important dates and tuition information for this summer. Please note that the Summer Session tuition is different than the regular academic year tuition.

Class Materials

Books
Please visit the Western Associated Students Bookstore were you can find the required books and case studies for your classes. The Western Bookstore lists your books by class and includes the ISBN and author information. You may then purchase your books online or in-person through the bookstore or from another source. Please check back to the bookstore site regularly as books may be added up until the day classes begin.

The Western Bookstore is a Non-Profit Co-Op which provides monetary support for student activities, scholarships etc and is a major source of fudning for the Associated Students of Western Washington University.

MBA 2009-2010 Academic Year Schedule

Online Resources
Western has an advanced suite of online resources to help students and facult manage the learning experience. MyWestern is the Student Web Portal which contains links to your University email, Blackboard (see below), Web4U (used for web registration) and MyFiles, your University digital storage space. You access all of these services by logging in to MyWestern and navigating from there. You must set up your Universal Computer Account first before being able to access MyWestern and the services within.

Many MBA classes use Blackboard, an easy-to-use online course management system used by approximately half the courses offered at Western each term. While not all of your MBA courses will use Blackboard, a significant number may. What is Blackboard? Blackboard FAQs. You access Blackboard through MyWestern or through the Blackboard Login.

Computer Access
Your Universal Login provides you access to computer labs and the campus-wide wireless network. With your UserId and Password you will be able to login in nearly all computer labs on campus and have wireless access in classrooms, cafe's and public spaces throughout the wider Western campus.
